When hard times hit, everyone—regardless of where they come from, how much they make, or their immigration status—deserves the security of knowing they can keep a roof over their heads and provide for their loved ones.
Right now, our state’s safety nets exclude undocumented immigrants despite the contributions being made on their behalf into the unemployment system from their labor. This leaves thousands of hardworking people and their families without critical support during hard times.
Our state legislators have the opportunity to right this wrong by passing our bill—HB 1773/ SB 5626—to include undocumented workers in Washington’s unemployment insurance (UI) system, but we need your help to make it happen.
All workers build up the unemployment insurance system and deserve its protection. Over the past decade, undocumented workers have helped contribute more than $400 million to unemployment trust funds, yet they remain excluded from accessing these benefits due to a broken federal immigration system. This isn’t just unfair, it hurts families and undermines the resilience of local communities.
We are fighting for a future where everyone who calls Washington home can live and thrive, and that includes ensuring that all workers, regardless of immigration status, are protected.

Cuando llegan tiempos difíciles, todos, independientemente de dónde vengan, cuánto ganen o su estatus migratorio, merecen la seguridad de saber que pueden mantener su hogar y cuidar a sus seres queridos.
Pero en este momento, las redes de seguridad de nuestro estado excluyen a los trabajadores indocumentados—a pesar de las contribuciones que se hacen en su nombre al sistema de desempleo gracias a su trabajo—dejando a miles de personas trabajadoras y a sus familias sin apoyo en tiempos difíciles.
Nuestros legisladores estatales tienen la oportunidad de cambiar esta situación aprobando un proyecto de ley para incluir a los trabajadores indocumentados en el sistema de seguro de desempleo (UI, por sus siglas en inglés) de Washington, pero necesitamos su ayuda para que esto sea posible.
Todos los trabajadores contribuyen al sistema de seguro de desempleo y merecen recibir su cobertura. En la última década, los trabajadores indocumentados han aportado más de $400 millones a los fondos de desempleo gracias a su trabajo, pero siguen excluidos del acceso a estos beneficios por culpa de un sistema de inmigración que no funciona. Esto no sólo es injusto, sino que también afecta a las familias y perjudica la estabilidad de las comunidades locales.
Estamos luchando por un futuro en el que todos los que llaman a Washington su hogar puedan vivir y prosperar, y eso incluye garantizar que todos los trabajadores, independientemente de su estatus migratorio, estén protegidos.
