The 2nd Annual Power of Community Event —
Our Largest Fundraiser of the Year!
If you joined us last year, you know how energizing it was to gather with neighbors, share ideas, and be reminded of what we can accomplish together. This year promises to be even more inspiring — and even more important.
At this moment when so much is at stake, your participation and support help ensure that our shared values are heard, represented, and defended here in Walla Walla County.
The evening at the Marcus Whitman Hotel will feature:
• A three-course seated dinner
• Engaging and inspiring speakers (with a special guest invited)
• An expanded silent auction
• Opportunities to connect, organize, and make an impact
Tickets will be limited. Registration opens April 15. Watch your email for details.
Plan to join us. Invite friends, bring neighbors, and be part of a community that shows up, speaks out, and works together.
We hope to see you there,
Kari Isaacson, Chair
Walla Walla County Democrats
P.S. Want to make an even bigger impact? Sponsorship opportunities will be available when registration opens on April 15.

Tri-City Democrats – Friday, June 12, 6:00 PM
Greetings fellow Democrats!
Vacation schedules prevent us from gathering at the farm this month, so we’ll meet at 6pm on June 12 at the Round Table Pizza in Pasco.
As usual at the pizza location, Tri-City Democrats will order several pizzas to share. We’ll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group. Some of our generous members are likely to purchase pitchers of beer to share. If you want the salad bar or soft drinks, you are on your own for those items.
We’ll have the donation box available for those who care to financially support the group.
We will have ‘Hate Has no Home Here’ signs available.
For full details, including the address, and to RSVP see:
https://www.meetup.com/tri-city-democrats/events/315073663/
Our program is to be announced, but we’ll have some announcements and we will have ‘Hate Has no Home Here’ signs available.

Last call for tickets for the Norm and Shirley Miller Dinner
June 11, 5:00 PM
Riverfront Hotel, 50 Comstock St, Richland, WA
We’re delighted to announce our speakers for the 2026 Miller Leadership Dinner:
Governor Bob Ferguson returns to the keynote slot! Wise and kind, this master strategist shares his insight of the long game in a way that brings his audience to their feet.
Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti, was elected the 24th Treasurer of Washington in 2020. As Washington’s chief financial officer, Mike is dedicated to increasing government transparency, protecting Washington’s financial health, and leading policies that best serve our state’s working families and retirees.
John Duresky, the Democrat running to replace Newhouse. He’s a veteran, worked at Hanford, and has been campaigning hard across the 4th Congressional District. Take this opportunity to increase his momentum.
Lauren Davis, Washington’s 32nd District State Representative, key in getting funding for our Columbia Valley Recovery Center. She is a leader in behavioral health issues and an outstanding speaker.
And there’s MORE! We will celebrate Karen and Ken Buxton, this year’s Leadership Award recipients for the tireless work in building the Benton County Democratic Party!

The Knicks are heading into Game 4 tonight with their season on the line.
After decades without a championship and a brutal Game 3 loss, fans aren’t showing up because of the box score. They’re invested in the people, the setbacks, and the chance to be part of something bigger.
Voters aren’t much different. Facts matter, but people remember stories.
That’s why we’re hosting a free virtual training on How to Connect with Voters Through Personal Stories TODAY.
Jalen Brunson didn’t just become an icon because of stats, it’s because of the story.
In this session, you’ll learn to identify the moments in a campaign when a personal story is exactly what’s called for and how to tell one that resonates.
You’ll get hands-on practice with the Story of Self framework — our proven tool for crafting narratives that connect — and you’ll work on tailoring your stories to fit different audiences and purposes.
The only cost is an hour of your day, and you’ll walk away with real, implementable skills.
Warmly,
Ada Recinos

On Monday, thousands of people booed right in Donald Trump’s face at Game 3 of the NBA finals. Nobody needed a press release to understand the message. Hey, communication comes in all forms.
That’s why every campaign needs a communications strategy.
Florida man booed by crowd.
Later today, we’re hosting a free virtual training on Planning Your Campaign’s Communications Strategy. This is the session where we get into the nuts and bolts of what a real comms operation looks like at the campaign level.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
- How successful campaigns develop a message and identity that stays cohesive across every channel and conversation
- How to set communications goals that are actually trackable, not just aspirational
- How to build a plan for earned media and rapid response before you need one
If you’re the person on your campaign responsible for how you talk to voters, supporters, and the press (even if that’s just one piece of a much bigger job), this training was built for you.
Register now. This is the kind of session that changes how you think about the work ahead.
Warmly,
Ada Recinos

It’s rough out there. The onslaught of political bad news, senseless violence, misogyny, and racism is enough to make even the most seasoned organizers want to throw up their hands. These are the exact times– when we’re tired and feeling hopeless– that we can get curious and be intentional about how we sustain ourselves in this work.
We’ll explore these topics and more next Wednesday, May 20 at 8 pm ET at a SURJ mass call, “White people’s work to not give up: a conversation on strategy and staying for the long haul.” We’ll be joined by Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson, former Director of the Highlander Center in Tennessee and movement strategist, and Scot Nakagawa, the Director of the 22nd Century Initiative and leading political thinker, who have been movement leaders for decades and bring hard-won lessons about how we stay in it.
On the other side of guilt, shame or feeling like we need to make martyrs of ourselves is a joyful, steady commitment. We’re working to get there together.
See you Wednesday–

These are difficult times for immigrant communities, with harmful policies and practices continuing to shape people’s lives in profound ways. And in this moment, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) is working to ensure that strategic, persistent legal advocacy can deliver real and impactful wins.
After years of litigation, NWIRP and our partners in co-counsel recently reached a settlement with the federal government in our challenge to its secretive CARRP program—a system that delayed and denied immigration applications, disproportionately targeting Muslim immigrants and communities from the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, often without explanation or recourse.
This is a significant victory.
The settlement—once approved by the court, likely at the end of June—will rescind CARRP. It reflects years of legal strategy, persistence, and the willingness by those directly impacted to persevere through an enormity of hardship.
But it’s not the end of the story.
Programs like CARRP don’t exist in isolation. They’re part of a broader system that relies on delay, detention, and other harmful tactics to control people’s lives. Challenging one piece doesn’t dismantle the whole, we know, but it creates an opening.
This kind of legal advocacy work is slow. It’s strategic. And it requires sustained collective support.
GiveBIG, Washington’s annual statewide fundraising campaign for nonprofits, begins today and runs through next Tuesday, May 5.
This is where you come in.
Your donation today would help sustain the work that makes outcomes like these possible. Because the systems that created CARRP are still with us, and the need for justice and accountability hasn’t gone away.
Thank you for making this work possible. With you and so many others on our side, we can meet the challenges of today while helping build a more just system in its place.

With care and resolve,

Malou Chávez (she/her/ella)
Executive Director

Hello Indivisible Red & Rural Caucus,
As February comes to a close, we celebrate Black history and its deep roots in rural communities, from farming and land stewardship to labor organizing, mutual aid, faith leadership, and civic engagement. These often-overlooked stories show how Black people have shaped rural life and democracy for generations and remind us of the power of organized communities, power we will carry into our work together in 2026.
First Red and Rural Caucus Call of 2026
We didn’t get a chance to connect in February, but we’re looking forward to seeing everyone next month!
Our next Red and Rural Caucus call will be a little different. We’re meeting on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 PM ET, a change from our usual schedule to avoid conflicting with all the No Kings 3 trainings happening during the week.
The session will be facilitated by our Campaigns Director, Gracey, a fresh face to guide our conversation on the plan for 2026, and Tim, our Mobilization Director, who will explore how members can plug into No Kings while building power in red and rural communities.
Register below to receive reminders. We have many exciting plans for 2026 and can’t wait to see you there!
NO KINGS 3
We’re gearing up for the next round of No Kings protests, and we’d love to hear from you. Let us know whether you’re planning to host a No Kings event in your community, and what kind of support you’d need to make it a success. Whether you’re just starting to think about it or already organizing, we’re here to support you.
Take Action Now
Republicans are once again pushing for a series of voter suppression bills—all variations of their infamous “SAVE Act”, which would create unnecessary obstacles for millions of eligible Americans trying to register to vote.
Congress is negotiating new funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at a moment when ICE and CBP are inflicting real harm on communities. This resource breaks down what we’re demanding and how you can take action.
In Solidarity,
The Indivisible Red and Rural Caucus Team

Dear MoveOn member,
This weekend, Trump launched military strikes in Iran without congressional authorization.
If Congress doesn’t act immediately, this unauthorized military operation could spiral into a full-scale war. Whether Congress authorizes it or not, most Americans don’t support the U.S. going into yet another costly war.
Congress must act NOW.
At 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT TONIGHT, MoveOn, 50501, and Win Without War are hosting an emergency movement call to break down what’s happening in Iran and the Middle East, what it means, and how we can apply immediate, collective pressure to stop this war.
On this call, you’ll get …
- clear context on what’s unfolding
- the stakes for our communities and the world, and
- a concrete plan for our collective action.
Our primary demand: Congress must pass a bill to rein in Trump NOW.
This is a moment for movement-wide action. Join the call to get context, as well as concrete next steps in the weeks to come.
Thanks for all you do.
–Nakia, Alexis, Sara, Joel, and the rest of the team

One of the most common questions we get at SURJ is: how do I talk to other white people about racism? The truth is, there is no magic set of words to learn– it takes practice. Whether it’s at your family dinner table or your neighbors down the street, our work to break the racist, anti-immigrant lies the billionaire agenda deployed towards white communities has never been more important.
Can you join us next Tuesday, February 17th at 6 pm ET for the first training and phonebank in our series, “Talk to Our Neighbors, Crack ICE”? We’ll be training you to talk to white working-class voters in the key congressional districts that will determine control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections. Using a deep listening method where you’ll engage around shared values, we’ll talk to people about their feelings on Trump’s immigration policies and deployment of ICE, and then organize them towards seeing what they stand to gain in choosing solidarity over MAGA’s racism.
Support for ICE is at an all-time low. And we know that working-class people have so much shared interest in rejecting racism and defunding ICE. As grocery prices skyrocket and basic healthcare services send families into debt, all of us– white people included– will be better off in a country where our government funds communities and not ICE terror.
Trump’s aggressive and violent deployment of ICE is causing many white working-class communities to re-evaluate their views and beliefs on immigration. Right now, we have a chance to turn towards these folks, bring them into a vision of shared interest, and get practice being in deep conversation with other white people about racism and immigration.
Join us on Tuesday to start laying the groundwork to defeat MAGA in the midterms, push the mainstream Democratic Party to take a bold stance on ICE, and skill up. If you can’t make it next week, there are many other dates and you can join at any time.
In solidarity,
SURJ
