Alliance for Gun Responsibility – July 18, 2024

For the tenth consecutive year, the Alliance for Gun Responsibility has evaluated Washington State Legislators on their support for gun violence prevention. Our legislative scorecard assesses each legislator’s commitment to reducing the number of gun deaths and injuries in Washington state as demonstrated by their votes, sponsorships, and advocacy. 

Thanks to your unwavering support and dedication, we’ve made remarkable progress. This year, we saw a record number of legislators earn A++ and A+ ratings, showcasing their steadfast commitment to gun violence prevention. These elected officials have gone above and beyond, not only by sponsoring and supporting life-saving gun safety bills but also by supporting community advocacy initiatives. Their efforts have made a tangible impact, and we are grateful for their leadership. 

In our continued effort to honor and recognize GVP Champions, we are thrilled to introduce a new metric: the “Lifetime Grade.” This comprehensive evaluation will provide a holistic view of our legislators’ cumulative efforts over the years. We believe this new perspective will allow us to recognize and celebrate our long-standing champions of gun violence prevention even more effectively. 

However, our work is far from complete. Many legislators received low scores this year, earning F or F- ratings. These individuals have consistently opposed measures that would help keep guns out of dangerous hands and ensure the safety of our communities. It is crucial that we hold them accountable and continue to advocate for sensible gun safety laws.
