This email is sent to all members on Tuesdays, as needed. It is a collection of information from a variety of sources. It is not proofread, and is intended to function more like a message board than a publication. We hope it keeps you informed of things that may be important to you, many of which are not included in our routine publications.

Reminder: All-Member Meeting 1/21 on Local News Study

Want an overview of what’s in “The Decline of Local News and Its Impact on Democracy,” the state study local Leagues have begun considering for consensus?

If you haven’t had an opportunity to attend a briefing in your local League, join us at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, for a presentation open to all members. Study committee members will provide an overview that includes highlights and key points to help prepare you for the consensus process. Register here for the Saturday event.

For more information about the consensus process, contact Mary Coltrane. For questions about the study, contact co-chairs Dee Anne Finken or Delores Irwin

Additionally, contact Finken or Irwin if you’d like a study committee member to serve as a resource to your local League consensus effort.

Democracy Lobby Week Is Almost Here!

Register now for Democracy Lobby Week, February 6-10. The virtual program will be deep and wide, and will include a number of our Issue Chairs. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your legislators to discuss our priority legislation. You’ll be with other members of your Legislative District. It’s a great way to participate in our state government, and to develop a relationship with your representatives and senators.

We’ll have a panel of legislators on Monday, Feb. 6th, opening evening. The detailed schedule will be on our website this week.  There will be presentations from many of our Issue Chairs and others on these topics:  public funding of elections, proportional representation (e.g., ranked choice voting), redistricting, environmental and climate issues, housing, and health care.
